Server Bug Leaks User Data

You know those emails politely suggesting that you should change your password? They arrive in your inbox for a reason. That reason is usually that something went wrong, and your username and password might be in the hands of other people. Often, especially in situations like this, nobody can know for certain if your data has been exposed, but it’s never a BAD idea to change a password.

Most of the time, compromised security is due to a hack, like what happened a couple of years ago with Target. But in this situation, it was a code error, and information was just being dumped out into the giant internet for anyone who happened to take notice of it. Maybe nobody noticed it before the guy who discovered it and alerted Cloudflare. But….I wouldn’t bet on it.

If you use one of the services identified in this article, it’s time to change your password. And if you use the same password in other places, change those, too!
