Print media advertising has been a mainstay for businesses ever since Gutenberg invented the printing press in 1440 AD. Today, niche publications are still making a go of it, but everyone realizes a paradigm shift has occurred and the majority of people are getting their news and information online – with nearly nine out of 10 people getting it while on their mobile phones.
As the following article indicates, publishers are definitely finding their audiences online, and are expanding their reach far beyond their paid subscribers in print. What that means for marketers is a boom in expanding their own target audiences, and deepening consumer engagement, through Social Media advertising.
For instance, The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) has a “total distribution” of 57,000 print copies of their bi-monthly magazine Quality Whitetails. A recent Facebook search for Total Audience Reach for QDMA unveiled 213,380 users – which is 3.74 times greater Reach than their print distribution.
Any marketer that is spending thousands of dollars to reach readers of print publications with stationary and non-interactive ads, needs to take the massive reach of daily — and interactive — Social Media advertising into serious consideration.
