Facebook & Heavy-Handed Censorship?
Have you ever wondered how Facebook audits or censors the content posted on it’s platform? Have you ever wondered – “How did that get by?” – looking at another users post – when a seemingly harmless post you may have made was flagged or removed?
Facebook has been taking a lot of heat over the past couple weeks and has rushed to defend it’s content policy after leaks about how review process works were made.
Critics are convinced that Facebook’s policy is far too arbitrary and politically motivated. That Facebook picks and chooses the content to show or hide based on the the alignment content has to the over-arching worldview of the company. The Global Policy leader at Facebook argues otherwise and is willing to admit that “they don’t always get it right” but they are doing their best to tailor their policies regionally while also maintaining some standard across the entire platform.
Take a look and decide for yourself. We have always found – Read the policy, abide by it, no problems – to be the best rule as an agency.
Facebook has announced they will be adding 3,000 jobs specific to the role of content review in an effort to be more consistent with how they approach their content policy execution.
