Create Engaging Experiences for your Target Market

Every morning on the way to work I listen to Mike & Mike on ESPN radio.  As a sports fan, it is great to get caught up on some of the big topics going on throughout the sports world.  The problem that I have with radio is there are so many commercial breaks that I am forced to try and engage with.  During my 15-minute drive to work, I will only listen to Mike & Mike for less than 10 of those minutes.  Often times, I find myself scanning to different stations trying to find either the next sports talk-show or a station with music I like.

Today, I did not skip the station quick enough when the commercial break started and heard a radio advertisement that was advertising to advertise on radio.  They claimed that you can “reach over 90% of the population through the radio per week, more than TV and Facebook”.  While this statistic may be true in terms of a number of people radio ads reach, this is not a good unit of measure to use when considering where to advertise.

The most important thing to consider when looking to advertise in today’s business ecosystem is finding where people look to engage with advertising, not change the channel or radio station.  Through the targeting capabilities that Facebook and Instagram allow for you to advertise to your target market without it looking like an ad.  Instead of recording a radio ad that explains your product or service, show your target market through an engaging video that creates an experience you want your consumers to see and feel.

Engaging advertising on the platform of Facebook or Instagram allows your target market to engage with your advertising and retarget an additional advertisement that will have more information they need before they purchase your product or service.  The video above shows a deer feeder that in just 4 seconds causes the target market of deer hunters to stop and watch.  If your content is engaging enough, people will stop scrolling through their feed to watch and share it with their friends who might be interested in the product.
